Connections

| Connection | Shows the name of the connection. See above for a definition of "Connection". |
| Type | One of
RemoteUrl (a number of cache
protocols includng FTP, FTPS, HTTP, HTTPS, FILE
or TFTP,
Remote (a secure remote database
protocol using SSH) and Local (either a SQLite or Firebird database.) Note: You can in theory use RemoteUrl locally and Local remotely across a network. The above definition was just meant to be a brief overview, not a comprensive definition. |
| Add... | Create a new connection (see below.) |
| Remove... | Delete the selected connection. |

| Initial | The connection that is used by default when Flazzle is opened. |
| Upload | The connection that is used by default in the "Upload" wizard. |
| Download | The connection that is used by default in the "Import" wizard. |
| Proxy Settings | The default proxy which is used if a connection's proxy settings are set to "Use Config Defaults". An option of "Use System Proxy Settings" (which tries to use Windows settings in Internet Explorer settings), "Custom Proxy Settings" (which allows setting a proxy manually, including with a username and password) and "Don't Use Any Proxy". |
Terminology used in this chapter
Connection: a method that allows Flazzle to talk to a database (e.g. to allow searching for dictionary words from a resource, usually on your computer) or a cache (to download/possibly upload dictionaries) of dictionaries.
Database vs Cache: The difference between a database and a cache is databases have full functionality including searching and viewing of dictionaries, and caches can only download (and in some cases upload depending on remote server permissions) dictionaries.
Protocol: A standard that allows Flazzle to connect, communicate and transfer data between two computing resources.
SSH: Secure Shell. A set of standards that allow creating a secure connection between a local and remote computer.
Proxy: A computer that offers a computer network service to allow clients to make indirect network connections to other network services.
