Transliteration

Transliteration inputs allow conversion from one alphabet to another using your existing keyboard, for example Latin to Arabic. Onscreen Keyboards are now generally favored over transliteration because they in general are less complicated, don't require learning how to enter characters and allow speed typing for native speakers.

However, they are still useful for Yi, Korean (Hangul) and other scripts which which require no accented Latin characters in the transliteration systems to access all characters. Accessing accented characters can be a messy process as Transliteration is also derived from Accent Selectors which can be annoying when they continuously popup.

ICU vs Internal

There are two types of transliteration systems in Flazzle. ICU stands for "International Components for Unicode", and which is a project started by IBM^, and the systems. These are generally more complicated than internal systems, but are much less likely to contain errors.

Those marked with '[Internal]' are written by me. These are used mostly for rarer scripts like Buginese, but while they may be more predictable than the ICU systems, I am not a native speaker of any of these languages and thus they are far more likely to contain errors. If you see any, please e-mail me at and I'll try to fix them as soon as possible.

^ Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with IBM or ICU. ICU transliteration systems are available under the license here.
