Dictionary
The dictionary in Flazzle WorldLearn allows searching for the meaning of words. Dictionaries can be added using the "File -> Import" menu item. To search a dictionary once imported, select the "Home" tab at the top of the screen (if it isn't already), right click on a dictionary in the list and select "Search" as above.
When in Flazzle search mode, type a word in using the text control in the top left hand corner, and Flazzle will search as the words are typed.
All of these steps are performed automatically to try to get the best search results possible, but you can also manually change modes between "Exact Matches", "Starts With", "Similar" (for spelling suggestions) and "Wildcards" using the tabs in the results pane on the right hand side.
Note that wildcards mode is only accessible if it contains one or more of the wildcard characters * or ? (or the fullwidth variants of those characters) are in your search.
- First, it tries for the exact matches.
- If it can’t find any matches, it searches for “partial” matches e.g. cat(ch).
- If it still can’t find any, it searches for “like” matches, and gives spelling suggestions.
Wildcard Search
* searches for multiple characters, e.g. “cat*” will find all words starting with “cat”, and ? for a single character, so “catc?” can find “catch”.
Bookmarks
Bookmarks can remember words so you don't have to keep looking them up. Press the "Heart" button to the right of the text control to add bookmarks and manage, for example add, delete or print bookmark categories.
