Editor



The editor allows modifying and an overview of dictionaries. To edit a dictionary, right click on a dictionary in the "Home" screen and select "Edit".

Multimedia Buttons


Click on one of the multimedia-related buttons in the top-right hand corner of the editor, and a menu will popup with these possibilities:

Play Mixer - launch the Windows volume control to adjust speech and multimedia play volumes.Speak - Speak the selected cell with the speech engine configured in the "Tools->Configuration" menu. Clicking this button speaks if there is no media file entered (see the lower right of this grid.) Record from Mic - Records from the selected recording input (either a microphone, line input or play mixer) selected using the "Record Mixer" in the lower left of this grid.
Record Mixer - Launch the Windows record volume control to adjust and unmute microphones or line inputs.Play Media - Play the media (sound, videos or possibly pictures) previously entered (see the lower right of this grid.) Media from File - Insert media from file. Note: This requires the relevant media codecs to be installed on your computer. Some example formats include sound files (mp3, ogg, wma) and videos (mpeg-2, divx and wmv.)

Record Troubleshooting: Please check the microphone is on, has batteries and is unmuted (if relevant), and the volume is turned up and selected as the recording input (see lower left of the above grid.)

Editor Right Click Menu


  • Speak: See above.
  • Play Media: See above.
  • Record Media: See above.
  • Cut: Cuts (copies and deletes) the selected text to the clipboard. This cannot be undone due to internal limitations. Note that multiple selections are possible by holding down the "ctrl" or "shift" buttons while clicking on cells with the left mouse button.
  • Copy: Copies the selected text to the clipboard.
  • Paste: Pastes text from the clipboard. Tab-delimited data is automatically formatted when copying from other applications, for example Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc
  • Paste Special...: Pastes text in a different order than ordinary Paste (above), allowing columns to be swapped. Useful, for example, for switching the 'Readings' with the 'Word' column to allow searching for PinYin in addition to Chinese Hanzi in Chinese Mandarin.
  • Delete: Deletes the selected rows. This cannot be undone!
  • Insert: Inserts rows after the cursor selection (i.e. the cell with the dark border around it.) Multiple can be inserted at once by selecting the number of rows you want to insert.
    Warning: Inserting at the end (towards the bottom) of very large dictionaries (tens or hundreds of thousands of entries) will be fast. However, inserting towards the beginning of such dictionaries may be extremely slow and cause Flazzle to become unstable!
  • Select All: Selects all rows in the dictionary.
  • Properties...: Changes dictionary-specific options, for example descriptions, inputs, columns, character popup definitions and language.

Find and Replace




The find and replace dialog allows finding and replacing of text. Note that the wildcards "_" matches one character, so "ca_" will match cat and "%" matches multiple, so "cat%" will find "category" etc. The document cannot be edited while using this dialog to allow rollback, so that if the document has changed, so you can optionally revert changes when the "Close" button is pressed.
